Horakuji Temple is also a famous temple in Tanabe City, Sumiyoshi County, Osaka Prefecture. It's worth visiting this place.

The temple was founded by Tairano Shigemori in the 2 nd year of Jisho (1178 ) . He broke his divine trip to Kumano at this temple to celebrate the completion .

Buddha's bones from China under the dynasty of Sung and the image of Nyoirin -kannon for the guard of Minamoto Yoshitomo were worshipped in the temple .

But some time or other Fudo -myoo took the place of the main image of the Nyoirin-kannon and was famous as its name of Yakuyoke (protecting people against evils ) Tanabe Fudoson . The temple was burned to ashes by Oda Nobunaga in the 2 nd year of Genki( 1571 ) but the two treasures survived . One is the Fudo-myoo and its subordinates which was made of silk and color-painted and is designated as the important cultural asset , the other is the Zaogongen -ryuzo(standing figure ) which was made of copper and is designated as the cultural asset by Osaka Prefecture .

There is a big camphor tree about 750 years old and is designated as the natural monument by Osaka Prefecture
